Day 4

Subject: [firstname]: It's not just about money!

Hi [firstname],

Why do you want to be an entrepreneur? If you list the reasons, I'm sure making money will be near the top.

But the thing is

Money SHOULD NOT be your primary motivator. When you do something purely for the money, you'll end up getting disillusioned very quickly. Why? Because you don't actually get the money right away. Even when you have a Just Over Broke, you don't get paid until payday. Just as tomorrow's dinner won't satisfy your hunger today, so doing something you hate on the off-chance of getting a lot of money somewhere down the line won't be enough to sustain you through the hard and stressful process of starting a business and building it up which is what entrepreneurs do.

Another consideration, of course, is when you're a wage slave you know how much money you're going to get paid, and you know WHEN it's going to be paid. When you're an entrepreneur (like I explained the other day) that doesn't always hold true.

Of course you must make sure you make enough money to pay your bills, put food on the table and keep a roof over your head; after that, you should have two main motivators to drive your business forward.

The first one should be that the line of business you're engaged in, is an activity you enjoy. You'll be spending an awfully long time at work building up your business. If it's something you don't like doing, everything will become a chore, you'll get resentful, quality will suffer and your business will be more likely to fail.

The second motivation should be the desire to help others. One of the most sure-fire ways of guaranteeing a successful business is to identify a want or need, and then to help your clients or customers fulfill that want or need in return for payment, naturally. This becomes a win:win situation for both of you.

Sincerely,

[Your Name]
